Can you quit smoking with the electronic cigarette?
In fact, the e-cigarette is just electric heating equipment with sensor, heating system, LED and rechargeable battery. You can smoke with the smoke cartridge. The catridge is a flask of propylene glycol solution contained nicotine. The propylene glycol is commonly used as carburetor. It"s also contained in the smog on the stage.When you "smoke", the solutioin in the catridge will be atomized. Most of the nicotine will be aborbed by the lung and the emitted smog is almost the vapour and propylene glycol. Though the electronic cigarette is much safer than the traditional cigarette, it"s not completely innocent.
Murray Laugesen is a participant of the New Zealand anti-smoking campaign and an authorized no-smoking expert. Commissioned by the World Health Organization, he made a survey about the possible hazard of e-cigarttes.
Each smoke contains the water, achohol, nicotine, propylene glycol and spice. But other common toxic substances like carbon monoxide and approved cancerogen ò€“ nitrosamines are not contained. "It doesn"t burn, so it"s safe in the no-smoking area. And the emitted smog isn"t basically harmful to the people around." Murray Laugesen said.
According the report, the nicotine contained in the smoke of e-cigarette is only one third of the traditional cigarettes". Is the electronic cigarette a harmless smoking cessation product? It"s hard to say. It"s not an easy thing to quit smoking. The nicotine replacement therapy is the recommended smoking cessation method of World Health Organization.
The nicotine chewing gum and nicotine patch are the most general products now in use. The e-cigarette and those products share several features. But there are still some people are suspicious of it. Anyhow, the nicotine is still contained in it.
Furthermore, for the smoking people, the feeling of holding the cigarette and the taste and smell are also the stimuluses. As the electronic cigarette is so much like the traditional cigarette, is it possible that the desire of smokers will not be decreased or even be increased by it?
This issue is at present unsettled. However, it already avoids the passive smoking at least even though it can"t help smokers quit smoking. The particles and odors emitted by the burning cigarette will be absorbed by the wall, clothing and even skin. If the baby who is less than 13 months touches them, he or she may get to carry the cotinine in body.
The infants of smoking parents will carry 50 times quantity of cotitine than the infants without smoking parents. Even the parents don"t smoke at home, the infants will carry 7 times quantiy of cotitine than the common babies.
Though there"s no latest clinical trial about how will the third hand smoking affect the infants, the clinical reasearch of second smoking has proved that the chance to suffer from the coronary heart disease and SIDS will be increased by 1.5 times if the cotitine is exceeded inside.
